A.J. Alexy was terrific in his first two MLB starts, but learned in the next few the importance of throwing strikes (The Associated Press/Marcio Jose Sanchez).

The second installment of the Texas Rangers Newsletter Top 40 prospect list might be more indicative of how deep the system has become than any other grouping.

Among the players ranked No. 21 to No. 30 are two players who have made their MLB debuts, two of the club’s past first-round draft choices and a league batting champion.

It would seem that those players should be ranked higher, and they would be if they were with a different organization.

While there is considerable talk about the players who took a step forward in their development, there are also players who lost some of their prospect status as others had big seasons and players were added to the system.

Those players moved up in the rankings, and there was a chain reaction that is evident here.

It happens.

So kick back, relax and enjoy reading the next reveal of the Newsletter Top 40.
