Here's what's next for the two Texas Rangers pitching prospects headed to the Futures Game
Cole Winn and Cole Ragans are headed to Denver to help kick off All-Star festivities.
Left-hander Cole Ragans, who missed the past three seasons because of two Tommy John surgeries, will join the rotation at Double A Frisco next week after returning from the Futures Game, according to two sources.
Ragans’ strong first-half showing at High A Hickory has been one of the highlights in the Rangers’ minor-league system this season. The 2016 first-round pick (30th overall), now 23, is 1-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 starts with 54 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings.
He will join right-hander Cole Winn, the 2018 first-rounder (15th overall), in the Frisco rotation. The Rangers aren’t yet ready to promote Winn to Triple A Round Rock even though he is 2-3 with a 2.49 ERA in 11 Double A starts.
Winn, 21, is one of the youngest pitchers in Double A Central and skipped High A after pitching in Low A in 2019.
UPDATE: Winn will be the starting pitcher Sunday for the American League team in the Futures Game. He is from Colorado and lives about 45 minutes from Coors Field in the offseason.
