Matt Carpenter received no guarantees from Texas Rangers, but signed anyway. Here's his reasoning
The three-time All-Star with St. Louis and former TCU star likes the front of his new jersey.
Mother Time is undefeated, as they say, and it appears she has her eyes on Matt Carpenter.
It’s not that he’s old, at age 36, but he’s logged 1,329 games and packed 10 years of MLB service time into 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The last two seasons were particularly rough, which might be why some believe Carpenter has already lost the race against the clock.
Yet, here he is in Texas Rangers spring training on a minor-league deal that comes with no guarantees or even a wink-wink assurance that he will make the Opening Day roster.
The Rangers are still focused on their young players despite their lavish spending in the offeseason.
Yet, Carpenter chose to be at the Surprise Recreation Campus rather than somewhere else on a major-league deal.
