Texas Rangers could have a second chance to bring Clayton Kershaw home. He said so himself
The left-hander from Dallas chose to re-sign with the Dodgers because he likes their postseason chances better.
Clayton Kershaw didn’t have anything to hide Sunday as he explained to media covering the Dodgers why he returned to Los Angeles.
Yes, the Texas Rangers were in the picture, but because the chance at a World Series isn’t necessarily in their picture for 2022, Kershaw re-signed with the Dodgers on an incentive-laden contract with a base salary of $17 million.
Manager Chris Woodward, who was a Dodgers assistant before coming to the Rangers after the 2018 World Series, might have disagreed with Kershaw’s assessment of the Rangers’ chances this season, but respects the decision.
Woodward also respects how Kershaw handled the situation, quickly phoning friend/Rangers general manager Chris Young with the news.
Apparently, Kershaw told Young something to the effect of “don’t be a stranger” next offseason.
