The legend of Nolan Ryan has only grown over the years since his retirement, and not without good reason.
No pitcher has sniffed his seven no-hitters, the final two of which came with the Texas Rangers. His all-time mark 5,714 strikeouts strikeouts might never be broken, though today’s hitters might have something to say about that.
The problem is that no one is going to pitch — and pitch effectively — for 27 seasons. Starting pitchers make too much money and often don’t make it past six innings.
There might never be another Ryan, a first-ballot Hall of Famer whose story is headed to the big screen.
