Watch Texas Rangers No. 2 prospect launch 511-foot home run
Sam Huff is on a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League and should move to Triple A Round Rock this month.
Sam Huff is officially on the mend, judging by the monster home run he hit Friday night while on rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League.
The Texas Rangers’ No. 2 prospect, behind only Josh Jung, unloaded on a 511-foot home run that was hit with an exit velocity of 115 mph. Take a look at this tweet from the Rangers Player Development account.
For those familiar with the Surprise Recreation Campus, the ball was found on the roof of the Rangers offices beyond Nolan Ryan Field. It was just to the left-field side of the 25-foot batter’s eye in center field.
It’s possible Joey Gallo, Nelson Cruz or Josh Hamilton hit one that far … in batting practice.
The rumor is that it’s hot in Arizona this time of year, and baseballs tend to fly a little further in the heat and thin desert air.
So maybe it only goes 470 feet at Globe Life Field, which would still be the longest home run hit there.
Huff hit three home runs in 31 at-bats last season after making his MLB debut in September. He also batted .355.
He pulled his hamstring early in spring training and missed the rest of camp, then needed minor surgery on his right knee during minor-league camp.
The expectation is he will make is 2021 debut at Round Rock, but he is unlikely to catch until late in the season. He will spend most of his time at designated hitter and first base.
