If JD were managing the oil boys business like he does the Rangers, he would trade their Midland-Odessa holdings for a platform in the gulf named Deepwater Horizon, then paid their workers wages like he did with Odor and Elvis. He was so correct about Cruz being washed up. Shrewd operator!
I’m not thrilled with this trade because I’m pro-Gallo. I won’t give a breathless defense of JD, but I often say he has bosses who have a recent history of not opening their wallets.
I don't know about the return, especially with it down to four now. I'm not saying Jasson Dominguez should be in the package, but it seems light to me. I'm no scout, though.
Disappointing. A bit confusing as well, when considering that there was already a potential Rule 5 roster crunch coming this winter. I don't like it on the surface, but reading a little deeper, some of these names appear to be arrow up this season. Still, when giving up a 2 time all star, seems a blue chip prospect if not two, would/should have been the return.
I don't like the deal. I really like Gallo. Depending on MLB Pipeline vs. Baseball America, the deal has a different look. BA ranks two of the prospects in the Yankees' top 10. Definitely a depth haul for a system the Rangers said was deep.
Keep one thing in mind about Baseball America - they don’t field a lot of independent scouts and writers -they couldn’t possibly afford to do that and make true evaluations of every teams minor leagues. The majority of the info they get is directly from the teams - BA relies heavily on “inside” information from teams - which as you know should always be taken with the biggest grain of salt you can find.
As a fan of the minor leagues I can tell you: the failure rate of minor league players (especially A ball players which is the majority of magic beans the Rangers got in the deal) is very, very high. The jump from A to AA is big and if you get 1 Sam Huff or Josh Jung out of a team of 30 players you are doing well. None of the players the Rangers are getting are anywhere near the top ten in the Yankees system - which increases the chance that not one of them will ever even a marginal big league player. Ranger ownership is not committed to winning. They are committed to being like the Oakland A’s: a major league farm team. They aren’t going to pay to keep good players - they just want you to come out an spend money at Globe Life no matter what kind of team is on the field. Jack Leiter did himself a favor by signing with the Rangers: he got the big bonus and when he becomes a really good young pitcher on the verge of free agency - the Rangers will trade him to Boston (where he was rumored to want to play) for another bag of minor league magic beans. I’ve been a Ranger fan since 1979 - and I’m just about done with that team in Arlington - the one at Minute Maid park is looking better every day to me.
Thanks Jeff. I’ll try to hang in there but I haven’t been as excited about a player in a long time. Gallo was must see even when he hasn’t hitting. I hate the Yankees, but Joey can do some serious damage in NY.
This really sucks. I have lost all respect for the Rangers organization. Now I have a half year of MLB TV and a ton of swag that I can donate. Sorry, Jeff, I may no longer want to follow this team. This is a sad day.
Well ... . I'm not happy with it. I don't know what the Yankees are giving up, nothing the caliber of Gallo. However, the Rangers' Double A team is really good and so are some others lower in the system (Foscue). If you're a Rangers fan, they should excite you.

This is so frustrating for me I am happy about the return.... But I really wanted him to be a part of the future.... Very Bittersweet

Bringing the 🔥 🔥🔥. You’re not wrong.

I hope he doesn’t put too much pressure on himself. He has a tendency to do that.
