Ian Moller is a catcher, so he’s not the fastest player on the planet.
That’s not to say he’s slow, though.
However, his roommates for Texas Rangers minor-league spring training are fellow 2021 draftees Cam Cauley and JoJo Blackmon, two of the fastest players in the organization.
Moller isn’t outrunning them.
“I’ll out-hit them, though,” he quickly quipped during the latest episode of the Texas Rangers Baseball Podcast.
Moller joined the program after a morning workout and before settling into a catchers meeting and then a hitters meeting. Catchers have the longest days at spring training and, generally speaking, during the regular season, too.
He loves it.
The podcast was recorded at Surprise Stadium, outdoors for Moller and inside as John Moore and I talked about the breaking news of the day Thursday — the end of the MLB lockout.
The audio isn’t necessarily studio-quality, but it’s not bad and Moller is definitely worth listening to and getting to know.
