Days off for a big-leaguers are like gold, even for a rookie who has been in the majors for fewer than two weeks. Yet, right-hander A.J. Alexy, who joined the Texas Rangers on Aug. 30, took time out of his off day to be on the Texas Rangers Baseball Podcast.
An MLB history-maker and media-friendly? The Rangers might really have something here.
John Moore and I asked Alexy a bunch of questions before he hit the streets of San Francisco, starting with that MLB history. He is the only pitcher to ever open a career with consecutive outings of at least five scoreless innings on no more than one hit.
Alexy, who has 11 scoreless innings, also fielded questions about a crazy growth spurt he had in high school, going from 5-foot-6 as a freshman to his current 6-foot-4.
Lots of ground was covered with Alexy and also by John and me as we discussed the relatively hot Rangers and picked the top prospect at each position in the farm system.
Take a listen.
